KHMs research council, in collaboration with the Museum of the Viking Age project, would like to welcome you to our interdisciplinary  seminar series. The seminars will address topics of general interest in the humanities and social sciences, also intersecting with content development for the new museum slated to open in Oslo in 2025.

The programme for this first seminar will  be as  follows:

Introduction by Jan Bill, academic curator  of the Museum of the Viking Age

David Jacobson, Professor of Sociology at the University of South Florida:
"Patterns of violence and what they reveal about social relations and societal institutions"

Iver B. Neumann, Professor II at the Museum of Cultural History:
"Transhistorical uses of force: Physical violence and war according to Nietzsche, Weber, Elias and Tilly".

The discussion will be moderated by Arne A. Perminow, head of KHMs research council.
