Call for Papers Workshop: Decolonising Sacrifice

The Department of Ethnography, Numismatics, Classical Archaeology and University History, together with the Department of Archaeology at the Museum of Cultural History invite contributions to our scheduled workshop on the topic of Decolonising Sacrifice. With an overall aim of providing a platform for stimulating discussion and through this to drive new knowledge of a topic entangled in colonialist rhetoric forwards in novel ways, we hope to see contributions from varied angles and on diverse themes.

We would also like to take this opportunity to advertise that the workshop will start with a seminar held by Professor of Mesoamerican Archaeology at UCL Liz Graham, on the 27.01.2022 at 14:15.

Speakers will be given 30 minute slots, of which 15 should be devoted to presenting a paper and 15 should be spent discussing in plenary. In order to facilitate an informed and helpful discussion, we will encourage all accepted speakers to circulate an extended abstract before the workshop. In accordance with this format, we seek to structure a day of thought-provoking debate and discussion, and stress that though papers should be coherent and ready to present, they need not be ‘publication ready’: this workshop can help achieve that by granting input and discussion.

Please submit your abstract of no more than 300 words to: ejnilsso@uio.no by the 1st December 2021.

Further information surrounding the program and other practical information will be announced in December.
