Heritage Accessible. Professionalization of cultural workers and dissemination of cultural heritage – the interdisciplinary partnership of the National Museum in Lublin and the Museum of Cultural History in Oslo

The National Museum in Lublin, in cooperation with the Museum of Cultural History in Oslo, is implementing a project entitled “Heritage Accessible. Professionalization of cultural workers and dissemination of cultural heritage – the interdisciplinary partnership of the National Museum in Lublin and the Museum of Cultural History in Oslo”. The aim of the project is to develop modern standards for research, conservation, sharing and popularizing culture and to build a lasting international partnership and a network of Polish-Norwegian cooperation. The project is co-financed from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Nor-way through the EEA Grants.

Grant amount: EUR 483,035.74 EUR
The total cost of the project: 568 277,35 EUR

The partner of the project is the Museum of Cultural History in Oslo, one of the most significant cultural institutions in Norway. This university museum possesses one million objects in different fields such as Nordic and Mediterranean/oriental archaeology, conservation, ethnography, anthropology and history.

An essential part of the project is equal opportunities in access to cultural heritage. The exchange of experiences and cooperation between museums will lead to an increase in the cultural competence of the audience and the development of cooperation between the cultural sector and the creative industry. The activities will be carried out on two levels: expert – addressed to specialists and popular – addressed to the general public, including ethnic and national minorities and recipients with limited access to culture due to place of residence or disability.

The activities carried out as part of the project:
– exhibitions – virtual, copies of monuments scanned in 3D;
– outdoor events, festivals: The Battle of the Bug River, Weekend with Archeology, Borderland Festival;
– workshops for the creative sector;
– three-dimensional digitization of selected, most interesting archaeological monuments from eastern Poland;
– expert debate on the protection of monuments and archaeological sites in Poland, Norway and Eastern European countries;
– youth debate on cultural heritage and how to talk about it;
– social research (e.g. on the Museum of the Eastern Territories of the Former Republic of Poland);
– conference about digital technologies Cultural heritage of the eastern lands of the former Republic of Poland;
– exchange of knowledge, training and study visits for: digital technologies specialists, conservators, museum educators.

The joint project of Lublin and Oslo will transform the existing cooperation into a permanent partnership and will open up new perspectives for the role of museums in the contemporary multicultural society.
