Material: Plant fibre, fruit peel, branch and straw 

Region and culture: Kwango, Bayaka people 

Description: Hat worn as part of religious dances by the Bayaka people. Made from a sackcloth that is pulled over a stand made by branches, which creates three chambers. Two round white eyes are made from fruit peels with a brown middle part. The hat is dark brown with light blue decor. The bottom is decorated with plant fibre. Height 28.5 cm. Width 23 cm.  

The Ethnographic Museum bought the hat from from Edgar Beer from Brussel. 1962
