Region and culture: Haut-Uele, Mangbetu people 

Description: A black anthropomorphic ceramic vessel with white paint. May have been used as a vessel for water or oil. These types of ceramics were regularly found amongst the Mangbetu peoples aristocrats, who surrounded themselves with exclusive multifunctional objects. The style of the vessel reflects traditional hairstyles and an elongated head shape that was a typical style amongst the Mangbetu-people.  

Captain Jan Kielland delivered the vessel to the Ethnographic museum. Unknown date.
