Ceremonial axe

Region and culture: Kasaï, Songye people 

Description: Large ceremonial axe with antropomorphical abilities. The blade is made from iron rods where 2 human faces appear. The shaft is made from copper. The blade is 21.7 cm in length, whilst the shaft is 39.5 cm long.  

This object was donated to the Ethnographic museum as part of Dr. Inge Heibergs collection. Approx 1903-1920
