The Museum of Cultural History must collect

The Museum of Cultural History must actively contribute to the development of research infrastructure and the availability of computer resources

The collections will be more accessible for research, dissemination and learning through improved infrastructure. It is an objective that the collections should be available in both Norwegian and English and with seamless connections between different data sets and infrastructural tools.

The Museum of Cultural History will take an active role in the work of developing standards and finding long-term solutions for collection management. By developing a nationally and internationally leading academic environment within collection management, the Museum of Cultural History will strengthen innovation within technology, methodology and management standards. Through further development and sharing of the museum's analysis facilities, the museum will be an attractive provider of infrastructure for research in the field of cultural heritage.

The Museum of Cultural History must manage the collection sustainably and long-term

The collections must be an open, dynamic, scientific resource that is developed and managed with clear research strategic ambitions. This will be done by updating and renewing the planning for the collections and deepening the strategic perspective in the collection from field work and excavation activities.

Very good storage and laboratory facilities are crucial for a sustainable and knowledge-based collection management. A clarification of the museum's future storage solution and an anchoring of this in the University of Oslo's overall strategic priorities is an important strategic goal. The museum's primary objective is that a future storage solution can be realised in close proximity to the museum's downtown areas.

The Museum of Cultural History must be a responsible steward of our shared memory

Through the collections and the museum's combined competence, the Museum of Cultural History manages and develops society's knowledge of the oldest times, the history of science and the diversity of social life and cultural expressions through which human life unfolds.

There is a growing awareness of the collections' importance as cultural heritage and identity builder. This commitment unfolds both nationally and globally, and the museum will take care of this heritage on behalf of the global community. The administration must be critical and aware of the

intellectual and political framework for this work. The museum will provide a cultural-historical interpretation of the world we are a part of. Global stories must be connected to national and local perspectives and Norway's history is understood as part of a larger reality.

The Museum of Cultural History must be a cultural administrator at the intersection between tradition and renewal

The Museum of Cultural History is a co-manager of an academic tradition with deep historical roots. The University of Oslo is based on a holistic understanding of university life as an interplay between research, learning, education and social responsibility. Likewise, the museum manages a comprehensive understanding of the interaction between the museum's research activities, the collection management and our external activities. This heritage will be managed and further developed in the 2020s and then with a special look at the activity's societal relevance. Through its activities, the Museum of Cultural History will show the societal relevance of our institutional tradition.
